LowCVP announces call for nominations for Low Carbon Champions Awards 2015

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) has announced a call for nominations from organisations that have made a real difference in the area of low carbon road transport. There are seven Award categories, covering areas ranging from cars to innovation, from fuels to publications, and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner taking place alongside Cenex’s Low Carbon Vehicle Event on Wednesday 9 September 2015.

Building on the success of last year’s celebration, the Champions Awards and Cenex’s LCV dinner are on track to be bigger and even better this year. This collaboration between the LowCVP and Cenex-LCV is surely the low carbon transport networking event of the year.

Cenex’s LCV2015 Event (Millbrook, 9-10 September) is the UK’s premier technology showcase for low carbon vehicles and fuels. The LowCVP Champions Awards will be presented at a gala dinner to be held in Milton Keynes, beginning in the early evening of 9 September. This year’s venue will be announced shortly.

The LowCVP Champions Awards celebrate examples of outstanding and innovative practice in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and reducing road transport emissions.

There are seven categories of Awards reflecting the diversity of those engaged in encouraging the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels. There are also two special Awards. The Award categories are:

    • Low Carbon Car / Van Manufacturer of the Year
    • Low Carbon Heavy Duty Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year
    • Low Carbon Vehicle Operator of the Year
    • Low Carbon Fuel Initiative of the Year
    • Award for Low Carbon Innovation by an SME
    • Low Carbon Road Transport Initiative of the Year
    • Outstanding Low Carbon Publication or Report

    Special Awards include:

    • Outstanding Individual in Promoting Lower Carbon Transport
    • Grand Prix Award (‘winner of winners’): Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport 2014-15

The LowCVP Awards winners will be assessed by a panel of expert judges drawn from the LowCVP’s wide range of stakeholder organisations. Awards are for contribution to the low carbon road transport agenda since January 2014.

Shortlisted nominations will receive a complimentary place for a representative at the LCV2015 dinner, courtesy of the LowCVP.

Andy Eastlake, the LowCVP’s Managing Director, said: “The UK’s low carbon automotive sector is now one of the most vibrant parts of the British economy, contributing to jobs, exports and growth. The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards are the opportunity to celebrate this, and the wider range of contributions from fuels and energy, innovations and initiatives, and even research and publications, all of which deserve recognition for the low carbon success story. We look forward to receiving the nominations.”

Winners of the last (2014) LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards included: BMW Group; BYD Europe BV; Reading Buses; Gasrec; Celtic Renewables; Eco Travel Network / Transport & Environment (T&E), and Cambridge Econometrics. Prof Dame Julia King, DBE, of Aston University was the winner of the Outstanding Individual Award, while BMW Group scooped the Grand Prix Award.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 15 May 2015. Enter now using the form on the LowCVP website.

The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards are accredited by the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) which means that the winners are eligible to enter the prestigious bi-annual European Awards for Business and the Environment (EBAE). Two of the winners of the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards 2014 were nominated by the RSA to compete in the 2015 EBAE Awards.

The headline sponsor for the Awards once again is Millbrook and three of the Awards categories already have confirmed sponsors – including Bosch Group, EDF Energy and Millbrook. The LowCVP is interested in hearing from potential sponsors of other 2015 Awards categories. All sponsors will receive a guaranteed table (seating eight people) at the event, which was a sell-out in 2014.
