NAA member Hylomar Ltd, a manufacturer of adhesives and sealants for supply into the automotive industry, is pleased to announce that it has received TS 16949 certification.

The certification is for the design and the manufacture of adhesives and sealants at its site in Wigan, Lancashire.

To operate within the automotive industry it is either mandatory or desirable to have TS 16949. This was the message that Ken Thompson, Technical Manager for Hylomar took back from a NAA seminar on “Why Become Certified to Global Management Systems”.

Hylomar was told that “UK vehicle manufacturers want to expand their UK supply base but their purchasing policies state that certification to a Global Management System is a pre-requisite.”

This was back in February 2012. Hylomar, a company that has manufactured sealants and adhesives for automotive powertrain applications since the 1960s, knew that it must obtain TS 16949 in order to continue and hopefully expand its business in this highly competitive market.

The NAA was able to assist Hylomar, initially in terms of training for its staff. Several members of the Hylomar team attended training sessions run by the NAA at its Land Rover Visitor Centre Head Office. These included internal auditor training courses, production part approval process and other quality management systems courses.

To help put the plans into practice, Hylomar utilised the expertise of Colin Smith from Smiths Consultants, a fellow NAA member.

The final approval for TS 16949 was obtained in June 2013.
