NAA Member News: Force Technology expands new factory

Force Technology, a world-class specialist supplier of precision springs, has recently enjoyed significant expansion at its new factory at Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone…

Force Technology has recently significantly expanded its 13,500 sq. ft. (1300 sq. m.) world-class manufacturing facility within the 90,000 sq. ft. ‘Lightworks’ building at Blackpool Airport’s Enterprise Zone.

The new government-backed initiative is providing Enterprise Zone status to the Blackpool Airport site which will help transform the area into a key employment site with the potential to support up to nearly 140 new businesses and up to 3,000 new jobs over the next 25 years.

High levels of investment at Force Technology have resulted in the manufacturing facility now featuring many examples of the world’s leading technology for the production of precision springs.

Recent acquisitions include advanced laboratory equipment such as a Scanning Electron Microscope. The new S360 SEM is capable of magnification greater than 10,000 times and is ideal for establishing root cause of failure in fracture investigations. Establishing modes of failure, including identifying non-metallic particle inclusions, is now carried out in-house.

Force Technology has also taken delivery of one of the world’s most sophisticated spring coiling machines. The advanced Wafios FUL56 is ideal for the manufacture of precision and high duty compression springs, particularly engine valve springs and fuel injection springs.

Force Technology’s team, headed up by directors Steve Williams and Simon Lonsdale, has recently been extended by the addition of four new industry professionals with over 70 years of combined experience in the high precision spring industry.

ISO 9001 accreditation was achieved in October 2015 and the company has built a comprehensive quality and business management system that is compliant with ISO 9001 and ISO TS16949 and the company intends to apply for ‘TS’ certification during 2016.
