NAA Update: Thank you to everyone at the NAA and also previous colleagues

I have been overwhelmed by the response from everyone following the announcement of the New Year Honours List and my inclusion with an OBE for services to the Automotive Industry in the North West. I feel that now is the right time to thank not only my staff, the Directors, Board and members of the NAA but also to thank all my colleagues from my previous employment with both Eaton Ltd and Leyland Trucks

While some are still at those companies, others have moved on and without all of them supporting me in my career from the mid-70’s as a student apprentice to now it would not have happened.

I have been very fortunate to work for some exceedingly good managers (although I have also seen plenty of the other type!) and have had a wide range of global opportunities that have helped me progress from a very timid 18-year old who wouldn’t say boo to a goose.

Although I am an engineer and historically product has always been my baby to be loved and cared for, I genuinely believe that people are the crux to the success of both individuals and products; hopefully my previous and current staff will agree that I aim to be fair, consistent and empower individuals to reach their potential, but that I also expect everyone to do their best and apply maximum effort to their work. Anyway, enough of me, I’m sure that there will be further coverage as the year progresses and the investiture occurs.

2014 looks to be just as busy as the last few years; we will continue tirelessly to find ways of supporting all companies who are members to meet their needs – over the last four years it has been clear to me how every company is individual and different and that is why one solution does not fit all. We have a full events schedule planned and combined with the International Festival of Business in June/July I am certain there will be plenty of chances for us all to meet and share opportunities.

Please remember that we can only help you if you speak to us – even our Board members get surprised by the volume of information that we can offer – so do get involved. It’s not as the lottery says that you have to be ‘in it to win it’ – signing your forms and waiting for your number to come up won’t work, you have to put effort in as well and then jointly we can help you increase your success.

Wishing you all a very successful 2014!
