Scorpion Automotive is the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of vehicle security and telematics systems for cars, LCVs, HGVs, motorcycles, motorhomes, caravans and marine craft.
From its in-house R&D and state of the art production facility in Chorley, Scorpion design and manufacture products sold across the globe with clients including: Aston Martin, BMW, BAC Mono, Caterham, Toyota, Subaru, Isuzu, DAF Trucks, Leyland Trucks, Iveco, Norton and Triumph Motorcycles. Scorpion products are now sold in 16 countries spanning 6 continents.
Scorpion also services a diverse portfolio of business customers with its industry leading ScorpionTrack Fleet Management System. This web based system enables businesses to manage their drivers and vehicles with precision. Live GPS mapping, real time dashboards and detailed reporting help businesses increase productivity, improve customer service and reduce their vehicle operating costs.
From its inception in 1973, Scorpion remains at the forefront of vehicle security technologies. Its large range of Thatcham TQA Accredited, insurance approved security and vehicle tracking systems provide businesses and members of the public with the ultimate vehicle protection and peace of mind.
The company is IATF16949, ISO9001 and ISO14001 accredited and has been awarded over 60 Thatcham TQA Certifications to date for its vehicle security and tracking products.
Investment leads to Growth
Over the last 18 months they have made major investments in people, plant and machinery to deliver improvements in three key areas:
- Building more flexibility into their operations to rapidly switch between products manufactured and better adapt to fluctuations of volumes produced.
- Increasing production capacity through additional manufacturing plant, staff and increased up-time.
- Increasing their manufacturing efficiencies through lean principles deployed in streamlining production processes and reducing waste in materials, labour and multi-skilling staff to assume different roles as production demands.
By June 2017, Scorpion’s core manufacturing capacity was scaled up by 300% to support an expanding UK market and increasing sales generated from 16 countries spanning 6 continents. The modular nature of the plant installed in their core manufacturing processes, coupled with their continuous improvement reviews and philosophy based on lean principles and stretching KPI’s has delivered a highly scalable future-proof manufacturing operation.
This supports their growth strategy over the next few years as they: increase their UK share of aftermarket and OE Business as British-based vehicle makers increasingly seek component suppliers closer to home to fulfil just-in-time production needs, cut logistics costs and improve quality.
They also continue to expand their global footprint and currently they are targeting new 12 countries across the Middle East and North Africa region.
This investment has also been an Investment in People in line with the planned business growth trajectory, more human capacity has been required, leading to creation of a further 15 jobs:
- Created 4 new jobs in R& (2 Hardware, 2 Web Based)
- Created 6 new jobs in 24/7 Monitoring Centre
- Created 5 new jobs in Producti
With the exception to its field based sales and technical team, all except one staff member is from the Lancashire region.
Support that Scorpion has received
Scorpion benefitted from a Lancashire Business Growth fund grant, which part funded a new state of the art printed circuit board (PCB) production line. Without this grant, investment would have been delayed and Scorpion would not have seen this growth and success.
