Overview
The following outlines a proposal for a half-day morning workshop to take place on 4th July 2012, supported by the Transport Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), British Marine Federation (BMF) and Niche Vehicle Network (NVN), to scope collaborative opportunities for the UK niche vehicle and leisure marine sectors and their associated supply chains. The workshop will be by invitation only and is free to attend. The workshop will be followed by an afternoon opportunity to tour Morgan’s factory.
Proposition
The establishment by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) of a Transport KTN in April 2010 signposted the TSB’s interest through the use of networks and potentially collaborative R&D in fostering cross-sectorial collaboration and knowledge transfer between road and marine.
The UK niche vehicle and leisure marine sectors each contribute annually around £1bn GVA to the UK economy. Technological synergies between the sectors include the use of:
• Innovative propulsion technologies, including hybrid/electric and hydrogen
• Novel materials, such as composites and lightweight metals
• Agile low-volume manufacturing techniques
The workshop aims to highlight some of the technology synergies identified above through discussion by leading practitioners in the niche vehicle and marine sectors. It further aims to demonstrate how SMEs have worked with their supply chains to develop and market novel products and to scope future collaborative activities with a view to influencing future R&D and technology priorities and funding calls.
Proposed Format
The proposed format is as follows:
• A half day workshop to take place on 4th July at Morgan Motor Company, Pickersleigh Road, Malvern Link, Worcestershire, WR14 2LL.
• 10 attendees maximum from each sector
Timings are proposed as follows:
10:30 to 11:00: Arrival and coffee
