NAA Event Review: RS Clare
In September, NAA members became experts in grease production when they visited RS Clare, originally founded in Liverpool in 1748…
RS Clare was founded at the start of the Industrial Revolution and it’s the longest established company manufacturing lubricants in the United Kingdom.
RS Clare’s Technical Sales Manager, Frans Pienaar, explained how the company started off manufacturing turpentine, and in 1956 it began distilling tar. By 1980 RS Clare was manufacturing speciality greases.
Serving markets including automotive, oil and gas, rail, marine and industrial, RS Clare specialises in many niche applications. In the automotive industry, the company has over 80 products, which typically reduce wear and friction, as well as noise.
Gary Bentley, RS Clare’s Technical Manager, delivered a presentation about the grease manufacturing process, explaining that this involves base oil, thickener, additives, the manufacturing process – and some ‘magic’…
NAA events typically also provide the opportunity for new members to give a short presentation, and on this occasion this was delivered by Alex Pitman from Businesswise Solutions, a company that helps organisations to use less energy – you can find out more in this month’s company profile link to Businesswise Solutions.
Philippa Oldham also gave a presentation about the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC). Philippa manages the APC’s Spoke Network, currently comprised of six spokes, which pull together the best in academic research, and then get industry involved. Find out more at www.apcuk.co.uk
