Bentley Lads’ Snowdon Climb in Memory of Colleague
A group of Bentley Motors colleagues, accompanied by wives, girlfriends, and even some pet dogs, climbed to the top of Mount Snowdon in memory of a colleague who died in July 2012
Martin Bowden, who had worked for Bentley for 32 years, and was a relation of the NAA’s Susan Butters, had a particular fondness for North Wales and wanted to do the walk himself, however his failing health over the past few years prevented him realising his ambition. So when his colleagues decided to carry out a sponsored activity to raise money in Martin’s memory, Snowdon was the obvious choice.
Thanks to all the efforts and generosity of Martin’s colleagues, friends and family, and an additional donation from Bentley Motors, approximately £4500 was raised, and on 28th November 2012 representatives of Macmillan and St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford, Cheshire visited Bentley Motors to be presented with cheques in recognition of the support they had given to Martin and his family. Also in attendance were Martin’s wife, Giselle, his daughter, Laura, and son, Jack, who were chauffeured to and from the presentation ceremony in a Bentley Continental Flying Spur.
Martin’s wife, Giselle, said “I can’t tell you how far the company and Martin’s pals have gone to look after us. Even now, there’s hardly a day goes by when we don’t hear from someone.”
As a lasting reminder of the event, Giselle, Laura and Jack have been given a framed photo of the ‘Bentley Lads’ at the summit and, thanks to some photographic wizardry, Martin is standing at the front of the crowd. So he made it to the summit after all!
