    Best motoring moment

Driving a Morris 1000 with a friend in the mid 70s, destination Tehran (when you still could!), we blew an exhaust valve in Ankara, Turkey. No spares available so we engaged with the plethora of tin shack and sand floor engineering companies to have an exhaust valve turned from a larger scrap valve by a (certainly no more than) 12 year old boy. It was still working well in the car when I sold it 10 years later.
