In the Driving Seat: Matthew Kershaw, Pennine Quality Consulting

Many NAA members may associate Matthew Kershaw with Setco Automotive, but Matthew has now set up Pennine Quality Consulting – which is where we assume he will be working when not running, mountain biking or driving Ferraris.

    Name

    Matthew Kershaw

    Company

    Pennine Quality Consulting

    Position

    Owner and Director

    Apart from that

Oh yes… I’m also a director of the Northern Automotive Alliance!

    Association with NAA

I started my association with the NAA over 10 years ago when I was implementing the automotive quality management system TS16949 at Setco Automotive. The NAA allowed me to network with local companies who had been through the same process and to share best practices. Since then, I continued to attend the NAA networking events and to benefit from their services. I was invited to join the advisory board in 2018 and went on to become a director in 2021.

Why did you join the NAA?

Having now established Pennine Quality Consulting, membership of the NAA brings obvious benefits, such as keeping up to date with industry trends and best practices as well as networking with like-minded people and potential clients.

    Personal

I’m married with two teenage daughters and live close to Burnley. I enjoy running and mountain biking in the local Pennine hills, and have been known to occasionally drop into a local pub for refreshments en route.

    Favourite football team

Burnley (but I am still happy to work with Blackburn fans)

    Musical performer

    The Chemical Brothers

    Movie

    Baby Driver

    Books

I rarely read novels, but my daughter (who reads a lot) recently encouraged me to read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

    Best motoring moment

For my 30th birthday (many years ago), my wife arranged for me to borrow her boss’s Ferrari 360 Spider as a surprise. Boy, that was an experience! The amount of attention that I got driving down Deansgate in Manchester was ridiculous.

Best business advice you’ve ever received?

The best business advice that I’ve ever received, particularly now that I’ve set up a new business, is to network. Often people are encouraged to network upwards, but I say network sideways. Find people with similar challenges to you, support each other and share best practices.
