NAA Member News: BAC Mono Sets Fastest-Ever Production Car Lap Time at Iconic Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia
Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is celebrating another major performance achievement, after the BAC Mono set the fastest-ever production car lap time at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia…
The world’s only single-seater, road-legal supercar conquered the famous Formula 1 track in just 2:14.617, showing its production rivals a clean pair of heels in the process.
Mono, with Blancpain GT Series Asia driver Shaun Thong in the cockpit, obliterated the previous best time by over four seconds – a 2:18.997 posted by the Porsche GT2 RS.
BAC is no stranger to lap records around the globe, having set the best production times at the likes of Zolder, Hungaroring and Anglesey, as well as being the fastest supercar ever to compete in the Goodwood Festival of Speed Supercar Shootout. The Sepang record is just the latest in a long line of feats for Mono on the track.
The lap was officially clocked by Sepang International Circuit timekeepers and fully demonstrated Mono’s ability as an all-rounder – it’s famed for its unrivalled agility, but it proved a real force on the fast, sweeping corners and long straights of Sepang.
The achievement came during one of BAC’s revered Mono Experience events, whereby international customers joined BAC Hong Kong and BAC UK for a festival of driving with like-minded individuals on one of the most iconic circuits in the world.
The record-breaking car was a 2018 model-year Mono that belonged to a new BAC customer, joining seven other Monos in Malaysia for the event. BAC hosts regular Mono Experience events for its valued customers, including ice driving on frozen lakes in Sweden and hitting the road on the Isle of Man.
Freddie Chen from BAC Hong Kong said: “What a fantastic achievement from a truly remarkable supercar. Mono has achieved some incredible things around the world and this is just another feat that we are very proud of. To go over four seconds faster around Sepang than the GT2 RS is amazing – no production car lap record in the world is safe with Mono around!”
Neill Briggs, Co-Founder and Director of Product Development, added: “BAC and all of our dealers around the world pride themselves on first-class customer engagement and service – and there aren’t many better ways to mark a unique customer event than with a new lap record! A fantastic time had by all and what a brilliant scalp to walk away from Sepang with; we can’t wait to get back on the track with our customers to push for more records!”
