NAA Member News: Hyer Power Project Receives Boost with Funding for Refuelling Infrastructure

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Range Extended Fire Engine Prototype (Hyer Power) project has taken a significant step forward with an £825,500 contract awarded by Oxfordshire County Council.

This funding will go towards the development of essential hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, provided by Hungerford-based Fuel Cell Systems.

ULEMCo is the lead partner in this £8 million hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle project, and the project is part of a wider collaboration supported by funding from the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) and Innovate UK (IUK). The focus is on developing and trialling up to three hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicles, including a fire engine, ambulance, and road sweeper.

The new infrastructure will be capable of refuelling other hard-to-decarbonise heavy-duty vehicles. Oxfordshire County Council will oversee the installation of the refuelling infrastructure to support these important trials.
