NAA Update: How the UK automotive industry can support the national growth agenda

Last month saw the annual party conference season begin again and in Liverpool, all eyes were on the Labour Party, which hosted its first as the party of power since 2009.

SMMT met with new and senior politicians there, to discuss how the UK automotive industry can support the national growth agenda and the country’s net zero ambitions. Central to that agenda is an industrial strategy, to which Labour has already committed, and which was fleshed out with some detail on the Apprenticeship Levy, energy market reform and Great British Energy, but it is the promised green paper we await which should provide more detail of structure and policy.

Closer to home, last month we held our Annual Networking Dinner & Business Awards 2024 at Crewe Hall. It was good to catch up with many of you on the night and thank you to our award sponsors, our award winners and our highly commended entrants. The standard of entries was exceptionally high again this year and made the judges’ task particularly challenging. It was a great evening and we’re already looking forward to the 2025 event.

Moving on to membership, I would like to welcome two new members this month:
