NAA Member Company Profile: Juno Racing Cars

Juno Racing Cars is a race constructor based in Leyland, Lancashire, established in 1999 by ex-Williams F1 design engineer Ewan Baldry. Juno recently won the contract to supply Silverstone with a new passenger ride experience car.

The car, which has the look of a Formula 1 car, will be used to give members of the public the thrill of their lives around one of the world’s most famous race tracks. Silverstone will call the car “The Hypersonic”.

The two-seater “Formula 1” style car has advanced aerodynamics and slick racing tyres, a 340bhp Jaguar 3-litre V6 engine, a paddle-operated Hewland 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox, a 0-60 mph time of under 3 seconds, cornering forces of up to 3g and braking forces of up to 3.5g.

With an impressive background in race car design and construction which has resulted in racing success in many series all over the world, Juno was delighted to be given the opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities to such a prestigious customer as Silverstone. The complete design and build was turned around in under five months, an achievement the company is very proud of, but one which Juno believes demonstrates the typical responsiveness of a motorsport-based company. This is a style and philosophy that Juno plans to make available to other companies involved in both the automotive and general engineering sector.

“To be successful and remain competitive in motorsport, we have to be constantly evolving our products and so have to create new designs and parts to very tight timescales”, said company founder and Juno Technical Director, Ewan Baldry.

“We have recently carried out some work for a more general automotive customer and they were staggered at how quickly we were able to produce a design and then prototype parts. It is simply the way we have always operated and we believe that our approach could be of interest to many other companies. We are interested to take on design or design and prototype projects from single component to complex sub-assembly level.”
