NAA Member Company News: DAF Trucks celebrates 400,000 commercial vehicles produced at Leyland assembly plant

CV sector showcases successful British manufacturing, courtesy of DAF Trucks and Vauxhall…

The phrase “we don’t make stuff here anymore” is often bandied around in relation to UK manufacturing – but nothing could be further from the truth, especially when it comes to the automotive industry.

The commercial vehicle sector has provided a timely reminder of recent success, with two significant production milestones reached.

Firstly, DAF Trucks is this week celebrating 400,000 commercial vehicles produced at its Leyland assembly plant. The factory is one of Europe’s leading manufacturing sites, and is the centre of design and production for the DAF LF range. It also produces UK-registered, right-hand-drive DAF CF and XF models – as well as a significant number of vehicles for export to markets in Europe and around the globe.

Vauxhall, meanwhile, has built its millionth Vivaro van in Luton. A real success story for the UK, the latest Vivaro secured 1,500 jobs at the plant – while UK-supplied parts content has increased from 24% to 40% over the previous model.
